Your right John the impact on small cities will put some of them out of business to the point of no police or fire support that small cities buy from larger cities. More important is that all the cities up north, south, east and west vote no on prop. 1A if you vote yes you will be adding two more years’ of taxes on this budget that was just past by the assembly. Lets point out one more important item to look for on prop. 1A they do not tell you in your voter guide that if you do vote yes you will be adding two more years of taxes on to the voters of California. Plus if it passes the assembly can raise taxes when the state is in a budget crisis you the people of California don’t even have a say in the matter. The governor and the assembly have put us in a box if 1A passes. The Governor last week received 2 million from the Republican Party to run miss leading ads to support prop 1A.  So your story should be about all cities not just small ones, the small cities one will be the will be the scraps of a failed Governor and a left wing assembly and this includes both parties.

  •  Hi John,

You may know about this, but just thought I'd add it here:

I've recently moved to Alameda from Oakland, and just yesterday as I was walking down Park Street I was stopped by an Alameda Fire Department fireman named Ben, who identified himself as fireman from the West Alameda station at (I think) Webster and something streets. Ben was gathering signatures from Alameda voters to have some kind of voter referendum on the decision to cut fire department funding, which I guess the city recently decided to do. He had some alarming statistics about the delays in emergency response times already caused by reduced fire department funding, and he was critical that the fire department cuts had come before some other budget items he identified as far less critical.

    Looking forward to the story!

    Maudie
