I once wrote a story about the Curator of the Unclaimed Dead (actual job title!) at UCSF. Turned out that some of the bods were missing certain organs that had been removed after death and, presumably, sold. --Peter Byrne
From reading your pitch, I really like this idea and I'm especially interested in how international borders influence the claiming process. This would be a very useful story for people outside the U.S. to read, particularly folks from neighboring countries, so they understand the process and how to get bodies back when they need it. Thanks for your research.
Thanks for mentioning the Jamboree, Liana. As it happens, one of the talks I'll be doing is called "Cold Cases" and is mostly about the Unclaimed Persons volunteer group and how it came to be. I'll also walk through several cases. The group will be 2 years old in a few days (www.unclaimedpersons.org). Thanks again for bringing attention to this quiet epidemic.
