With an extended five weeks of coverage for the recount we have an elected Governor. You can follow the history of coverage from TheUptake and MinnPost in the "external links" section below.  We hope this ongoing series has provided some insight and good reporting on the election process. It would not have been possible without your support. Both MinnPost and The Uptake thank you greatly.

Here's a roundup of the conclusion of the recount which has named Mark Dayton the oldest governor-elect of Minnesota. Emmer has conceded and today Dayton will appear with current Governor Pawlenty to acknowledge the peaceful transfer of power.

The future is uncertain for the heads of both the DFL and Republican parties in Minnesota. Meanwhile Dayton has a lot of planning himself such as appointing staff and commissioners, outlining a budget and paying all those recount expenses.

The real work is just begining.

The undispiuted victor in this saga was the recount process. Despite a close margin the state conducted an orderly and civil recount that observed legal restrictions and still decrlared a victor.

Minnesota Governor-Elect Mark Dayton thanks supporters at a labor meeting in St. Paul. Dayton said his 8,770 vote victory would not have been possible without labor’s support. Earlier in the day, Dayton was certified as the winner of the 2010 Governor’s race when Republican Tom Emmer conceded.

Dayton, who will be appearing with Governor Tim Pawlenty at a news conference Thursday, questioned Pawlenty’s assertion that the state’s $6.2 billion deficit is “fictional”. And said Pawlenty’s promise of no new taxes was a myth. Dayton pointed to rising property taxes as evidence.
