Mountaintop_removal_featured_image

Mountaintop removal is a way of life for coal communities and coal companies in Appalachia. Coal companies say reclamation makes the land almost as good as before they chopped the top of a mountain. Residents complain that flooding, contaminated water and coal dust remain after the coal is mined.

Are there other ways to balance jobs versus quality of life, and what's the role of government in making sure new techniques are explored and enforced?
