important storyThis is a well told, well documented story about a tremendous problem in our society. i live in south LA, and a few weeks ago, my street was blocked off because there was apparently an armed suspect loose in the neighborhood, so the police officer said. he was polite to me; i'm not black, but I am Latino and a college professor. i noticed that my black neighbors who had also been sent on the same detour I took, finally parked in front of their house about the same time I arrived at my house. they were hassled by the police. i was allowed to go into my home without a word. i have many african american friends who, for years, have experienced this. maybe if enough people file a complaint as Mr. Diallo did -- and keep filing and filing and filing -- the police will amend their behavior. but so much has already been written about this issue all over the country, and law enforcement behavior doesn't seem to change.
