About Tom Murphy

Tom Murphy has been practicing journalism in the San Francisco Bay area for over three decades and is the Founder and Editor in Chief of RedwoodAge.com,the first major news site designed for readers over 40.

Murphy was the founding Managing Editor for MarketWatch.com, one of the Web's most successful editorial sites, and has also served as Editor in Chief for RedHerring.com, Revenue magazine, Emerging Business magazine and Montgomery Research.

In addition to his for-profit activities, Murphy is founder of Newswire21.org, and is actively seeking volunteers - journalists, engineers and marketing pros - who are interested in helping to redefine how a wire service operates (send an email).  He is also a founding member of the steering committee for Public-Press.org, where he advises on editorial development.

Murphy holds a degree in journalism from UC Berkeley and sits on the board of the Northern California Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.

Murphy lives in Marin, where he rides road bikes every chance he gets.
