Daniel has shown interest in Gov't + Politics, Public Health

About HealthyCal.org

Veteran California journalist Daniel Weintraub follows public policy so you don’t have to. Weintraub tracks the latest on public health, land use, community development, violence and more. Read his updates here at least daily.

Weintraub is a native Californian who grew up in San Diego and graduated with a degree in economics from San Diego State University. He covered the state Capitol for more than 20 years for the Los Angeles Times, the Orange County Register and the Sacramento Bee. He currently writes on a free-lance basis for the Bee and the New York Times.

Weintraub has reported on the careers of four governors and closely followed the state’s fiscal condition plus health, education, energy and many other issues. He appears frequently as an expert on public and commercial radio and on television. He is the author of “Party of One,” a book about the career of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Weintraub is a big believer in the Internet as a transforming force in journalism. He was the author of the first web log by a print journalist in California when he created the California Insider at the Sacramento Bee in 2003. He was also the host of the Conversation, a weekly feature on the Bee’s Sunday opinion pages that encouraged interaction and engagement on the major issues of the day.
